Batteries play an essential and growing role in our society. They ensure that many daily-used appliances and services like mobility and energy storage work properly. They constitute indispensable energy source and are essential for the green transition. Global battery demand is expected to increase 14-fold by 2030, making this market an increasingly strategic one.
On 10 December, the European Commission presented a proposal for a Regulation concerning batteries and waste batteries. The proposal is designed to modernise the EU's regulatory framework for batteries in order to secure the sustainability and competitiveness of battery value chains. It is one of the first key deliverables of the Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan.
In this webinar, Renew Europe will discuss the proposal and its scope with the representatives of the European Commission, the Portuguese EU Presidency, business representatives and environmental organisations. The debate will focus on the innovations and obstacles in the EU’s battery development, the solutions the European industry can provide as well as the sustainability of batteries and how to enhance it.
