Renew Europe’ President, Dacian Cioloş, speaking in the European Parliament before today’s inauguration of the 46th President, Joe Biden, and of the vice president Kamala Harris, said the EU and US now have a new opportunity to build a strengthened transatlantic partnership.

He said “We need to roll up our sleeves and reshape our longstanding partnership. Let’s put trade tensions behind us. Let’s build a common vision on how to deal with our systemic rivals - China and Russia. Let’s level up our commitments to fight climate change and openly discuss how to deal with digital giants. Let’s identify how to support countries in the world to get out of the pandemic and back on a growth path. “

EU must seize Mr. Biden’s proposal to build an Alliance of democratic countries.

Cioloş continued: “We, Europeans, should seize Mr. Biden’s proposal to build an Alliance of democratic countries, who cherish freedom and respect human rights. Renew Europe stands ready to work with the new American administration and with the Democratic party, with whom we have close political ties, to set up the summit of democracies. We can prove to the world that democracies are resilient, fit for the challenges of this century and ready to fight populism, disinformation and authoritarianism.
