Renew Europe played a central role to make Europe ready to work and to deliver in an era of profound change. We need the EU to be operational as a united global player at a complex geopolitical moment.
Renew Europe succeeded to ensure a shift back to a pro-european majority for this mandate by initiating and negotiating a pro-European coalition agreement, signed with the EPP Group and the S&D Group.
A firm commitment by the three forces of the centre to return to a stable pro -European working method in the Parliament.
Commenting on the new coalition agreement, President Valérie Hayer said:
"Renew Europe has united the centre to defend Europe. We proposed a new deal in the Parliament based on centrist and democratic principles and we have delivered it. We need stability, certainty and an EU that is operational in an uncertain world."
Renew Europe negotiated successfully to substantially weaken Fidesz’s power in the new Commission: the portfolio of Olivér Várhelyi has been methodologically deconstructed to safeguard the health of European citizens, including the issue of sexual and reproductive rights. DG HERA, including crisis management and preparedness, and the competence over sexual and reproductive rights will be transferred to Renew Europe Commissioner Hadja Lahbib.
Commenting on the confirmation of the Renew Europe Vice-Presidents of the European Commission, Valérie Hayer, President of Renew Europe, said:
"With the confirmation of Kaja Kallas and Stéphane Séjourné, the European Union has two experienced politicians to steer us to a brighter, more prosperous and secure future. The past week has shown that centrists are still Europe’s bridge-builders. It has confirmed a new Europe cannot be built by the political extremes. A revised portfolio for Mr Várhelyi ensures Fidesz will have no power over sexual and reproductive rights."
