Speaking in the European Parliament today, MEP Valérie Hayer, President of the Renew Europe Group, raised serious concerns about actions by Members of the European Parliament that threaten the integrity and values of the institution.

Hayer highlighted the recent cooperation agreement between the Bulgarian party Revival, affiliated with the ESN Group, and Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party. Valérie Hayer also noted alarming reports that some extremist MEPs may be planning to attend Putin’s red square military parade in Moscow this Friday.

“We cannot remain silent while Members of this House engage in activities that align with an authoritarian regime working against the interests of the European Union,” Hayer added. “This is a matter of democratic integrity and respect for the citizens we represent.”

Renew Europe is calling for a thorough investigation into whether Members of the Revival party have received any financial contributions or donations from United Russia intended to influence parliamentary work. In addition, Hayer urged the President of the European Parliament to ensure that no travel to attend Putin’s military parade is financed—directly or indirectly—by the institution.

“The attendance of any MEP at autocrat Putin’s parade would disrespect Parliament’s dignity, harm its reputation, and undermine our common values,” said Valérie Hayer. “This is also a basic question of solidarity with the Ukrainians who are fighting for the freedom of Europe.
