Today Renew Europe will vote against the motion of censure tabled by far-right Members of the European Parliament, that carries an anti-European purpose. This motion has no legitimacy. It is the product of extremist forces whose sole objective is to sow chaos and dismantle the European project. President Valérie Hayer: “The Renew Europe Group does not support this motion. It comes from the extreme right — and on that, our position is clear, we refuse to legitimise their agenda or play their games.” Our rejection of the motion goes beyond its origin. At a time of mounting geopolitical uncertainty and economic strain, what Europe needs is stability and leadership — not institutional sabotage. President Valérie Hayer: “This is no time to give in to chaos. This is a time for courage, composure, and responsibility. We must stand firm as defenders of a strong and united Europe.” No Confidence in the Motion — But Not a Blank Cheque for the Commission While Renew Europe opposes the motion, we are far from satisfied with the current trajectory of the von der Leyen Commission. The European institutions are now dangerously close to crisis. That must change: President Valérie Hayer: “President von der Leyen must now keep her promise, restore trust with the parliamentary groups that elected her. A functioning majority cannot be taken for granted — it must be earned through dialogue, cooperation, and respect.” The upcoming State of the Union address in September will be a pivotal moment. It must mark a shift in leadership style — from unilateralism to partnership — and reaffirm the strength of the pro-European centre that delivered results during the President’s first mandate. A Clear Message to the EPP Renew Europe is deeply concerned by the behaviour of the European People’s Party. In seeking short-term tactical gains, the EPP has too often aligned itself with those who actively undermine the work of the European Commission — and the European ideal itself. The same ones who today want to make her fall. We are the trustworthy partners, and it is time to be respected as such. " President Valérie Hayer: “There is no sustainable, forward-looking agenda for Europe that can be built with those who seek only to divide — to divide institutions, Member States, and citizens. Empowering the full potential of the central pro-European platform is the only path to empower Europe itself." Our Conditions for Future Support Renew Europe will also submit a clear and comprehensive set of political demands to President von der Leyen in the lead-up to the State of the Union. These will define our expectations and conditions for the second half of the mandate. President Valérie Hayer: “Our future support is not automatic. It will depend entirely on how the President responds to our priorities such as an ambitious Competitivess Fund that mobilises EU savings, accompanies companies in their financing journey and helps them to scale up, tougher conditionality of the EU budget and a functional platform agreement to involve centrist groupings in the Parliament". |
