Growing up in the algorithm: who’s in control? - In a Europe already debating digital regulation, we are confronted with a silent public health crisis: children’s minds shaped by algorithmic systems, often at the expense of their mental health.

Renew Europe invites journalists to a public seminar where we will present our new position paper, the first by any parliamentary group, calling for urgent action by the Commission and Member States to protect children’s well-being, including through phone-free schools and algorithmic accountability.

Commissioner Michael McGrath will join the discussion. Journalists will be invited to pose questions during the open exchange with experts and civil society.

Hosted by Veronika Cifrová Ostrihonová MEP, with the participation of Billy Kelleher MEP and Stéphanie Yon-Courtin MEP

When and where : 15 October 2025, 15:30–17:20, European Parliament, Brussels (PHS 5B001)

EU rules on business ethics and disclosure - Next Monday, the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI) will vote on the first ‘omnibus’ simplifying EU rules on business ethics and disclosure. The EPP has shifted to the right. Renew has acted as mediator. A compromise has been reached in the centre. We expect the centrist majority to hold.

Vote: Monday 13 October, 4.30 p.m. Renew MEP: Pascal Canfin (Renaissance, France)

Protection of children online - Next Thursday, the committee on the Internal Market (IMCO) will vote on a report to protect children online. This follows Renew's presentation of a position paper on the matter with Commissioner McGrath the previous day.

Vote, Thursday 16 October, 9:30. Renew MEP : Stéphanie Yon-Courtin (Renaissance, France)

Transparency obligations - Next Thursday the IMCO committee will also vote on a report introducing transparency obligations for lawyers and lobbyists to declare whether they act in the interest of third countries and if they get money for it. It was a difficult balancing act as we don't want NGO to be captured by the law.

Vote, Thursday 16 October, 9:30. Renew MEP : Sandro Gozi (Modem, France)

Calling for creation of a European Disability Employment and Skills Guarantee - Ensuring the inclusion and equality of people with disabilities in our European society is imperative for us. On Thursday, under the leadership of MEP Valérie Devaux, we therefore proudly present a set of thirteen freshly adopted commitments to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities covering policy areas ranging from accessible housing to political participation.

We are pleased to have secured the lion's share of them in the initiative report foreseen to be adopted in the Committee on Employment and Social affairs the following week. This report will be crucial in ensuring the Commission respond to our call to present an ambitious update to the current EU Disability Strategy for the next five years.

When : Thursday, 16 October. Renew MEP : Valérie Devaux (UDI, France)

Air passenger rights. Renew Europe stands strong behind passenger rights. We support the alignment vote and are eager to immediately commence trilogues to defend and expand European air passenger rights. We support fair treatment, clear rules and accessible compensation when flights are delayed, cancelled or boarding is denied.

Renew Europe calls on the Council to support passengers’ rights and to work with the Parliament to deliver a fair, transparent and passenger-centred air travel framework.

After the vote EP rapporteur will hold a press conference to brief journalists on the Parliament position with the participation of Renew shadow rapporteur on this file, Jan-Christoph Oetjen. He will be available to answer questions.

Vote : Monday 13 October 16:30. Press briefing : 17h45, EP press room SPAAK 0A50. Renew MEP : Jan-Christoph Oetjen (FDP, Germany)
