Any peace settlement involving Ukraine must strengthen European security. Renew Europe supports a joint demand with EPP and S&d in requesting a plenary debate Wednesday morning on "EU position on the proposed Peace Plan and EU engagement towards a just and lasting peace for Ukraine," in presence of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
A debate is urgently needed to reaffirm fundamental principles: any peace plan must fully involve both the EU and Ukraine. Negotiations cannot proceed without respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and its free choice of alliances, including EU membership. Strong security guarantees are essential.

Given the gravity of the situation facing Ukraine and the EU, Renew Europe will hold an extraordinary group meeting Tuesday afternoon with High Representative Kaja Kallas to address these critical challenges.

Debate : Wednesday 26 November, 9:00 (tbc).

Extraordinary Group meeting with HRVP Kaja Kallas : Tuesday, 24 November, 14:00.

Arctic Strategy and Security priorities. Renew Europe is leading the report "EU's diplomatic strategy and geopolitical cooperation in the Arctic" to be adopted during the plenary session. The Arctic is becoming a critical geopolitical flashpoint requiring an urgent EU strategic update. Russia's military expansion and China's Polar Silk Road threaten regional stability, demanding stronger EU-NATO coordination to protect critical infrastructure and deter aggression. The region's energy resources are also vital for EU strategic autonomy. Renew calls for deeper partnerships with Iceland, Norway, Greenland and Canada and urges respect for Indigenous rights, sustainable resource management, and increased funding for Arctic engagement. And we firmly support potential EU membership for willing Arctic nations to bolster collective security and governance.

Debate : Wednesday 26 November, vote Thursday 27 November. EP rapporteur : Renew MEP Urmas Paet (Reform Party, Estonia).

Sudan’s forgotten tragedy. At Renew's initiative, a debate will be held with a vote on a resolution addressing the deadly Sudan conflict. The text condemns systematic violations by Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, demands humanitarian corridors and increased aid, calls for International Criminal Court cooperation and European Union sanctions against military commanders and United Arab Emirates enablersm It also urges an African Union-led inclusive political process excluding military leadership while supporting civil society and civilian protection mechanisms. After two and a half years of fratricidal conflict, the situation has reached unprecedented levels of horror. Over 150,000 people have been killed, and millions of civilians have been forced to flee their towns and villages, almost 50.000 in recent days alone. Survivors report systematic war crimes: summary executions of civilians, widespread rape, looting, kidnappings, and attacks on humanitarian workers

Debate : Tuesday 25, 13:00. Renew MEP : Hilde Vautmans (Open-VLD, Belgium), Renew spokesperson for foreign affairs.

Countering Russia's hybrid warfare. Russia's systematic hybrid warfare campaign through airspace violations, drone incursions, severed cables, cyberattacks and election interference demands firm EU response. Unity and deterrence are critical - hesitation expands the grey zone. Renew supports proportionate action including shooting down threats and immediate retaliation against sovereignty violations. Enhanced sanctions must target Russia's war capacity and enablers (Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Chinese suppliers). Europe needs real-time response capacity and new security mindset for 21st-century threats.

Debate : Wednesday 26 November, 13:00

China’s trade weaponisation. Renew Europe is deeply concerned by China’s weaponisation of trade and dependencies. China is tightening its grip on global supply chains, demanding intrusive access to companies’ sensitive data and extending control far beyond its borders. We strongly oppose this escalating pressure. China has repeatedly refused to explain its export restrictions, despite the EU’s formal requests. This year, several rare earths were added to China’s control list, triggering further disruptions, with tougher conditions for semiconductor and defence-related products. Renew Europe stands for open markets, fair rules and economic stability - not coercion or dependence.

Debate : Wednesday 26, 09:00. Renew MEPs : Group President Valérie Hayer (Renaissance, France), Bart Groothuis (VVD, Netherlands)
