Iran's brutal crackdown: Europe must act !
Renew Europe strongly condemns the Iranian regime's brutal repression of peaceful protesters. The killing of protesters, widespread violence, arbitrary detention and intimidation against Iranians exercising fundamental freedoms constitutes a grave violation of human rights.
Following these escalating atrocities, Renew Europe repeats its call for the immediate designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. Our group has consistently advocated for adding the IRGC to the EU terrorism list alongside other targeted measures against the regime.
Renew MEP Bart Groothuis (VVD, Netherlands), vice-chair of the Delegation for relations with Iran, stated :

“A regime that systematically kills, imprisons, and terrorizes its own people has forfeited all legitimacy. Such abuses demand international accountability - yet the IRGC remains off the EU terrorism list. The EU must act: list the IRGC, document every crime, deny study visas to regime relatives, restore secure internet access, and stand firmly with the Iranian people, the only legitimate representatives of Iran. Europe must choose the side of freedom.”

Renew Europe urges EU institutions to explore additional support measures, including enhanced access to online media for Iranians and protection programs for persecuted opposition members. Europe must choose the side of freedom.
