End impunity for Iran's crimes against its people
Renew Europe strongly condemns the decades-long brutal repression in Iran, where protestors are killed, violence is widespread, and civilians face arbitrary detention, intimidation and executions for exercising fundamental freedoms. These actions constitute grave violations of human rights that cannot be tolerated.
We welcome the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, a measure we have repeatedly called for. Now we must ensure sanctions are fully enforced so that IRGC-affiliated individuals have their assets frozen and are banned from the EU.

"The designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organisation is a necessary step in holding the Iranian regime accountable for its systematic violence against its own people,"

said Helmut Brandstätter (NEOS, Austria), Renew shadow rapporteur for Iran.
Renew Europe MEP Abir Al-Sahlani (Centerpartiet, Sweden) added:

”A regime that uses the most brutal violence to suppress fundamental citizens’ rights only to remain in power is a regime that lacks legitimacy. The Revolutionary Guard is the oppressing fist of the regime in Iran. The sanctions targeting the IRGC are much needed and must be fully implemented. The victims of the regime’s brutality need justice. The EU must offer protection to those at risk, including humanitarian visas, and push for the UN Security Council to refer Iran to ICC to open investigations for those responsible for these crimes against humanity.”

The EU must do more to protect Iranian civil society and support those courageously fighting for democracy and human rights.
