Industrial Accelerator Act can kick start Europe’s industrial leadership
Renew Europe welcomes the long-awaited and much needed Industrial Accelerator Act, presented by the Commission today. At a critical moment for our economy, it sends a clear message: Europe is putting industrial competitiveness back at the centre of its agenda, and Renew Europe is proud to lead this fight.
Over two decades, Europe’s share of global industrial value has dropped from 21 percent to 14 percent. If we don't reverse this negative spiral, we will lose jobs as well as innovation and technological leadership.
Applying a European preference in key sectors will strengthen our industrial base, secure quality jobs and reduce dependencies without sliding into a fortress.
Competitiveness and decarbonisation must go hand in hand. By accelerating permitting procedures and securing demand for low-carbon products with lead markets, we can turn the green transition into a driver of industrial renewal.
Now the European Parliament will examine and amend the text, marking the start of a long-term process led by Renew Europe, to deliver a comprehensive and ambitious approach.
Christophe Grudler (Mouvement Démocrate/France), coordinator for Renew Europe in the Committee of Industry, Research and Energy says:

"The Industrial Accelerator finally marks a wake-up call: without clear support for our strategic industries, we will lose jobs, factories and our technological sovereignty. This text aims to accelerate decarbonisation and protect our critical value chains. Public procurement and state aid are powerful levers. Every euro of public money must first and foremost create production, value and jobs in Europe. In the face of China and the United States, we can no longer hesitate. Let us support our strategic sectors, cut unnecessary red tape, fast-track industrial projects and give our companies concrete tools to produce and invest here in Europe. The time for naivety is over. Europe must once again become an industrial power."
