Islamist entryism: no EU money for those who undermine European values

Renew Europe calls for concrete EU action against Islamist entryism following today’s adoption of a European Parliament resolution on the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood network. Europe must protect its democratic institutions and ensure that public money does not support organisations that undermine fundamental rights, and step up its vigilance over the organisations hosted by European institutions, including Parliament.
The group did not wait for this resolution to demand that the use of European funds or access to Parliament be subject to clear criteria regarding respect for our fundamental values. With this text, we make it clear that need the EU to finally address the specific threat of entryism: covert and malicious interference that can exploit lawful channels and institutional access to undermine liberal democracy, the neutrality of public institutions and fundamental freedoms.
Renew Europe condemns any political discourse that distorts the legitimate fight against malicious entryism to fuel racism, xenophobia and anti-Muslim hatred.
Nathalie Loiseau, Chair of the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield (EUDS) and shadow rapporteur for the Renew Europe Group, said:

“Renew Europe has secured a well-deserved victory today: for several years, our group has been working to ensure that not a single euro of European money goes to beneficiaries who do not respect European values. We fight interference and attacks on our democracies, wherever they come from. We are astonished to see the left united in denial as we denounce attacks on women’s and LGBT rights by Islamists. We welcome, however, having resisted attempts by far-right groups to exploit this issue, conflating Islamism with Islam and inciting hatred against Muslims.”
