POPA Reforming the Union landscape

Outside pressures make reforms the only realistic option for Europe. The global economic climate forces us to strengthen the basis and the sustainability of our welfare. Geopolitical tensions call for more unity in diplomacy and defence. To speak with one voice, and then act accordingly, political institutions and decision-making procedures need to be more effective. And democratic accountability must necessarily follow political integration. Europe’s strength will be measured against its ability to adapt to global changes.

The European Union stands at a watershed moment. If geopolitical challenges and internal pressures are testing the European Union’s unity, democracy and resilience, they also present an opportunity to strengthen our common project, deepen our cooperation, and reaffirm our shared values on the global stage.
