Delivering on affordable energy prices for citizens and businesses must be the key priority for the coming years: for the sake of citizens’ trust in the EU, for our businesses’ ability to compete and innovate and for our strategic position in the world.
Today, energy is Europe’s Achilles heel, but it has the potential to become our superpower.
Europeans are already taking action: citizens and businesses across the EU are massively investing in energy efficiency and clean energy solutions, placing solar panels on rooftops, and scaling up electrified production processes by different industries.
We need to stop holding back initiatives: lengthy permitting processes and outdated regulations, insufficient implementation of existing rules, a lack of infrastructure, unfair competition from polluting imports, faltering investments in clean energy production and many other factors are currently in the way. It is Renew Europe’s priority to systematically remove those obstacles to unleash Europe’s full potential.
Renew Europe’s key message:
Energy is Europe’s Achilles heel: Citizens are sick of paying high energy bills, European companies are losing competitiveness due to energy prices and our position in the world is weakened by our dependence on others. The EU now imports 58% of its energy. Europe’s inability to fully produce our own energy lies at the root of Europe’s political, economic and geo-political crises.
Energy costs are a crisis: and should be addressed as one: Clean energy represents a massive opportunity for Europe and a source of economic growth and security. Renew Europe will work at EU level to strengthen the Energy Union with the aim of lowering energy bills while delivering on climate targets. Households, businesses and industry can count on us to make a difference to their pockets and their margins.
As Europeans we can do this: An integrated, European energy sector can make clean and more affordable energy accessible for everyone.
