A FAIR AND COMPETITIVE ECONOMY FOR AFFORDABLE LIVING

Answering to citizens’ calls for Europe to respond to the escalating cost of living crisis they face, Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament present an action plan to make life more affordable for citizens. 

Our key messages:

• Affordable Europe our number 1 priority: When food or heating becomes a luxury rather than a basic staple, it is indicative of a growing societal crisis. Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament will do everything possible at EU level to lower the costs of living, while strengthening competitiveness and resilience. Households, businesses and industry can count on us.
• Empowering Europeans: Europe must act decisively to protect consumers, strengthen the single market and restore citizen’s trust. Delivering practical, immediate solutions at the checkout counter is essential to show that the EU can act where it matters the most.
• Costs are crippling: We need to curb inflation and tackle price gouging, make housing affordable and accessible, and increase our sovereignty in key sectors including clean energy, to cut bills for the Union’s citizens, businesses and industry.
• We can do this: Restoring fair prices and making life more affordable would bring massive benefits for Europe, and provide a source of growth, competitiveness and purchasing power for our economy.
