As the deployment of the 5G is underway in Europe, the development of the next generation of wireless technologies, 6G, has begun. With the first research programmes established, including through the Horizon programme, the momentum is building up for defining, developing and deploying 6G.

It is estimated that the commercial deployment of 6G will take place in about a decade from now. Nevertheless, to enable the uptake of the new technology, policy makers should start to think about what the 6G technology will entail, and what the research community and the industry need to develop the technology. To do so, this webinar aims to answer the following questions:

- What is the state of play on research in 6G technology?

- Why do we need 6G technology and what is its potential?

- What are the needs for the development and deployment of the 6G? How to set up collaboration between the research and industry?

- What should be Europe’s approach to 6G standards?
