Landscape POPA Rights of persons with disabilities

As Renew Europe, we affirm that all people are free and equal in their dignity and rights, which are inherent, inalienable, non-prescriptible and irrepealable. We hereby commit to make European society inclusive for everyone.

We welcome the intention of the Commission to update the EU Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities 2021-2030. In addition, we firmly believe that a collective effort is needed, through early and meaningful consultation with people with disabilities and their representatives to mainstream the disability perspective into other EU policies and strategies, including in external actions.

We call for greater mutual recognition between Member States, and consequently call on the Commission to put forward a common EU- wide definition of ‘disability’ in line with the UNCRPD, to help ensure that all EU citizens with all kinds of disabilities are granted equal rights. We further call on the Commission to issue a recommendation that all Member States implement the UNCRPD in their national laws.
