COVAX Council Co-Chair: Chrysoula Zacharopoulou’s appointment will strengthen the global vaccination effort
Renew Europe welcomes the appointment of Chrysoula Zacharopoulou (Renaissance, Renew Europe) as Co-President of the COVAX Shareholders Council.
A medical doctor as well as an MEP, who has led on EU-Africa relations in the European Parliament, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou is strongly committed to the success of the COVAX programme since its launch and Renew Europe gives her all our support.
Renew Europe is convinced that the COVAX programme is essential to enable vulnerable countries to have access to vaccines. Team Europe is one of the lead contributors to COVAX, with over €2.2 billion promised. 113 countries have already received doses of the vaccine under the programme, a first step towards the goal of reaching 20% of the population vaccinated in the 92 most vulnerable countries by the end of 2021.
