Today the European Parliament's Conference of Presidents made the final step in appointing Laura Codruța Kovesi as the chief prosecutor of the EPPO. On this occasion, Dacian CIOLOȘ, President of Renew Europe said:

"This is a symbolic and important moment for the fight against corruption and fraud in relation to European public funds. Mrs Kovesi will have the responsibility to build this important pan-European institution from its foundation and I know she is the perfect choice and has excellent professional competences to deliver on this new role at EU level."

The EPPO, which is expected to be operational at the end of 2020, will be an independent office in charge of investigating, prosecuting and bringing to justice crimes against the EU budget, such as fraud, corruption or cross-border VAT fraud above 10 million euros. The list of crimes could be extended in the future to include, for example, terrorism. The EPPO central office will be based in Luxembourg, along with the Chief Prosecutor and a College of Prosecutors from all 22 participating countries.
