Ahead of the meeting of the European Council of 16 December, the President of Renew Europe, Stéphane Séjourné, has called for action to tackle vaccine scepticism, calling on the European Commission to lead the battle against vaccination misinformation, do more to vaccinate the world and ensure the integrity of the EU’s Covid-19 certificate.

Speaking in Strasbourg, Stéphane Séjourné declared:

We are experiencing an epidemic of the unvaccinated and misinformation is eating away at our continent. The European Commission's initiative against this is welcome, but I call for collective responsibility. We must relentlessly denounce all those who sow doubt in our populations and all those who give a platform to conspiracy theorists. The far right who embrace vaccine scepticism have lost the right to call themselves parties of freedom or of the people.”

As new variants emerge, we must coordinate and anticipate as much as possible the differences between Member States. The European certificate Covid-19 is an undeniable success, but we must regain control of the revision of the regulation for citizens. We have asked so much of our people. We owe them this efficiency and coordination. Avoiding a perpetual pandemic means vaccinating the world - here Europe is a driving force and must remain so.
