This week in Bratislava, a field meeting of the presidency of the Renew Europe group of the European Parliament took place, of which the Progressive Slovakia movement is also a member. The European Union is a project built on cooperation - while Robert Fico is burning bridges, we are building them, declared PS chairman Michal Šimečka.
“Cooperation within the group enables us in the European Parliament to shape the future of the EU. While Robert Fico criticizes the Union at meetings with Putin, our MEPs are working to ensure that the EU moves forward. And they also help Slovakia directly. Smer’s MEPs have no influence, which is why they make angry videos for social media. Fico laments; we, together with our partners, negotiate and seek solutions. We know that the strength of the European Union lies in its unity,” emphasized Šimečka.

The chair of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament, Valérie Hayer, stated that Slovakia deserves leaders who see the country’s future in progress and whose values are firmly rooted in Europe’s democracy. "Progressive Slovakia is mobilised to reforming the country’s economy, strengthening a vibrant and independent civil society, and ensuring a professional Parliament that serves the national interest,” said Hayer. “Slovakia does not need a government that submits to powers from the East. Renew Europe stands with all those who choose openness, progress, and a truly European path, in the founders spirit," added Hayer.

The Vice-President of the European Parliament and member of the Renew Europe group, Martin Hojsík, stated that a strong Europe is one rooted in its regions and countries. “It grows from the principles of rule of law, vital civil society, competitive industry, social and climate justice. The latest government of Robert Fico is trying to undo all these and lead Slovakia on the path outside of the EU towards Russian sphere of influence, towards authoritarianism,” he added, noting that Progressive Slovakia as a core member of the Renew family is leading the opposition to keep Slovakia a free and democratic EU country.
