The aim of the event is to analyse existing problems of the European Arrest Warrant arising from its application or its design, such as abusive use of the mechanism by some Member States, application of the double criminality requirement or listing of categories with automatic recognition. Latest developments like the Brexit or the on-going Article 7 procedures against two Member States could create additional challenges to the effective functioning of the mechanism. Finally, the panellist shall discuss current ideas for a reform of the European Arrest Warrant and possible ways forward.
